On 7 August 1974 Philippe Petit, a well-known French tightrope walker, accomplished an extraordinary act he had been planning for a long time: he crossed the World Trade Center by walking on an iron wire suspended between the twin towers without any form of crash net or protection.
Based on Petit's autobiographical book, To Reach the Clouds (2002), Robert Zemeckis' movie brings to the big screen the story from the amazing preparation to the spectacular sky walk.
It is not the first movie to describe the record established by Petit: in 1984, his story was the subject of a short movie, High Wire, and in 2009 James Marsh won an Award for the best documentary with his Man on Wire, on which Petit collaborated.
Such an incredible story is just begging to be told through a great feature directed by a big name director like Zemeckis (the same director of Who framed Roger Rabbit?) with a rising star such as Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Inception and The Dark Knight Rises). And don't forget the touchy music soundtrack by Alan Silvestri!
TRIVIA: Zemeckis surely aims to the Oscar, but he already won an academy award with another cult-movie starring Tom Hanks. Which movie was it?
